I’ve been blogging for two years straight now on a consistent schedule. That’s an accomplishment I’m pretty proud of since I’ve never kept a blog alive on my own before. I’ve never even consistently journaled or kept a diary going for that long before. Did it bring me fame? No, of course not. Was it fun and rewarding? More often than not, yes.
In the background, I’ve been focusing on trying to publish short stories from my linked collection started in graduate school in addition to some poetry. In 2018 and 2019, I sent out 10 short stories, 8 poems, one chapbook, and two query letters to agents for consideration and all have been rejected. The kicker is that I thought the journals I was submitting to were really REALLY good fits for the pieces I was sending them. C'est la vie.
So, I’m changing course a bit. I still want to keep this website alive, so I’ll post to the blog, but I won’t be posting every month. I’ll post seasonally, so you can expect about four posts a year unless I have any exciting news.
With a bit of new time on my hands now, I’ll be focusing more on my new duties as volunteer prose editor for Minerva Rising and on writing my novel. If I get that itch to return to those dusty old short stories, I might. For now, though, it seems like a bit of a waste of time and money to keep sending them out. Perhaps they’re just not ready.
