6 Things Keeping Me Going Through Winter

I thought I'd take a break from the book reviews and author shout-outs to just post something fun. Winter in Western Washington isn't usually too terrible. We don't get monolithic snow storms or below freezing temperatures, but we do get lots of gray days, occasional snow, and lots of rain. I'm a fan of sunshine, so I thought I'd share a few things that have been keeping me going through the dark and terrible months of the year.

Aromatherapy

I recently purchased a small essential oil diffuser on Amazon and I'm really enjoying being able to fill our tiny home with lovely smells. Right now I'm rocking lavender, grapefruit, and frankincense essential oils which are supposed to be helpful for anxiety and sadness according to likely somewhat unreliable sources. I've consulted no experts, so don't quote me. It's pleasant to be surrounded by wonderful fragrances though.

Netflix

I watch a lot of goofy shows to keep my spirits up in winter. Bob's Burgers is my go-to background noise and silly, sleepy TV show. I'm also a fan of Stranger Things and quite of few popular shows on Netflix. When I'm feeling nostalgic I'll watch Supernatural and Charmed, my favorite TV shows from my teen years.

Tea

I've started drinking more chamomile tea to combat my high-strung and worrywart tendencies, and it helps. In addition to chamomile, I keep a wide (wide) variety of teas on hand because when I'm in the mood for tea I'm also endlessly indecisive.

Good Books

I tend to read several books at time because I am a fairly slow reader but interested in a variety of topics. Being part of a book club also encourages that practice since I'm often reading something for the group and also reading something I've been meaning to read or excited to read for a while now.

Warmth

I have this homemade rice-filled pillow that you stick in the microwave and then snuggle with it. An ex-boyfriend's mom made it for me and honestly it is probably one of the most used gifts I have ever received.

Sunshine

On the rare occasion that there is sunshine, I make it a priority to go on a walk. Who knows the next time we'll see sun again! I don't often take pictures, but a few weeks back I did take a pretty good one (below).
