Good Things from 2023
While the world is full of sadness, and life is still a challenge for many as we recover from the pandemic, I thought I’d write a little love note to 2023 to remind myself and others that good things are happening too.
In 2023, I got to spend time with my parents’ aging kitties (and my parents of course!). These two (Mackie isn’t pictured here) were supposed to be mine once upon a time. I’m grateful that mom and dad could keep them as they are aging and I’m still unable to take them. They are contented, spoiled, grumpy indoor/outdoor kitties. Here is Wally, about twelve years young and joining me for an afternoon cuddle.
In January 2023, I got into the swing of learning to crochet, and freehanded these buddies. I meant to go back to add noses of some sort, but I never got around to it. I still like them this way though.
In February, I enjoyed nature close to home on walks with my parents and around my neighborhood.
In March, I enjoyed nature while visiting my close friend in Florida! It was a blast to spend some uninterrupted time with her and see all the unfamiliar animals. There were so many new birds! I saw many lizards, turtles, and alligators as well.
In May, I rekindled my love of baking after having to cut out gluten from my diet. These are monster cookies made with a recipe my manager shared :)
I also walked my first 10K with Run Like a Girl, affiliated with Girls on the Run.
In the fall, I crocheted strawberries, jalapenos, and peas in the pod freehand as part of my niblings’ Christmas gifts.
I ran the Pumpkin Run in September (5K)! It took me 55 minutes, so that’s my starting time. We’ll see if I get faster next year.
In October, I took time off for my birthday to visit family and witness the annular solar eclipse in Oregon. It was super cool.
I also participated in choir again! I don’t have a picture for that, but eventually I hope I can share a link to our Fall 2023 performance.
Finally, I tackled a longtime goal of creating some notebooks with my watercolor paintings as covers. Here is the first of perhaps a few more! They can be purchased on Amazon.
