Fall Happenings 2019
The summer has blown by for me. Work was busier than ever what with moving offices, setting up for fall quarter, and scaling up a peer mentor program at my institution. Outside of work, I dreamed of green places and tried to incorporate more relaxation and fiber into my life to manage anxiety and acid reflux with mixed results.
I’m excited to say that serving as prose editor for Minerva Rising Press has been a blast so far. I’ve even been able to connect my writing mentor Kate Trueblood with the Editor-in-Chief of the press Kim Brown. Kate is now serving as a contest judge for this year’s Chapbook Contest Dare to Tell: Health and Healing. She has a wonderful novel in stories available now from University of New Mexico Press titled Take Daily as Needed. I just got my hands on it and am looking forward to reading it.
I always have several books going, and I’m excited to keep going with all of them. I’m an hour away from finishing the fourth Harry Potter book on audiobook for nostalgia’s sake. I’m re-reading Women Who Run with the Wolves by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes, a book about the Wild Woman archetype and fairy tale. I’ve written a blog post about it that will come out on Minerva Rising’s blog soon. I’ve got a couple others, but I’ll keep those a secret for now. You’ll have to wait for my annual review of all the books I’ve read this year to hear about the highlights.
On a final note, fingers crossed! I just sent out a story for Owl Canyon Press’s Hackathon short story contest. Let’s hope I get picked for inclusion in the anthology.
Happy fall!
