My coworker has been reading this book for several months now, off and on, and keeps mentioning different passages to me. It is a book that somehow escaped me through my studies, even though I tried to focus on writings by women of color who are politically inclined. Now that I have it in my hands, I'm wondering how it never ended up on any of my reading lists.

Yesterday I attended the 20th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Conference organized by the Whatcom Human Rights Task Force. A few people that I work with were presenting on different topics important to me, but on a whim I ended up going to a workshop facilitated by two local artists/writers who I had not yet met but I had heard about when I was still kicking around with my MFA grad school crew on the regular.

One thing that is timely and that I do want to get out online and to others, whoever might read it, is more information about the crisis in Puerto Rico. Our final keynote speaker was scholar activist Rosa Clemente. Rosa has family in Puerto Rico and has taken it upon herself to document the suffering and bring aid to those in Puerto Rico trying to survive and rebuild in the aftermath of the hurricanes.
